What is Hypnotherapy?Hypnosis is a changed state of awareness and increased relaxation that allows for improved focus and concentration. Hypnotherapy is a form of therapy that uses hypnosis to readjust the subconscious mind. When in hypnosis, you put your mind and body into a heightened state of learning, making your mind more open to positive suggestion for self-improvement or behavior modification.
What is the difference between hypnosis and meditation? Meditation allows you to get quiet and hear your thoughts and clear your mind. Hypnosis allows you to reprogram your thoughts.
How is Hypnotherapy different than traditional therapy or seeing a Psychologist? Psychology is the study of human behavior and psychotherapy is an umbrella term for the many different ways of helping people with their thoughts and emotions. Hypnotherapy falls into this category. Psychology deals with the conscious mind and Hypnotherapy deals directly with the subconscious mind. Hypnotherapy is usually far quicker in producing beneficial changes and results because it deals with subconscious thought processes, which are often the cause of many people’s problems. Talk therapy can take years to work through an problem if you do not resolve the underlying subconscious thoughts and feelings that fuel your reactions. The advantage of hypnotherapy is that it goes straight to the subconscious mind!
Can I be hypnotized?
Yes. Virtually everyone can be hypnotized. Hypnosis is a natural trance-like state, in fact, we are in hypnosis many times each day. We pass through hypnosis on our way to sleep and when we wake up each morning. If you’ve ever woken up and your body is too relaxed to move or when you become absorbed in a good book or movie and lose track of everything else around you, you have experienced a form of hypnosis. If you ever driven home from work and your mind went into auto-pilot and you do not remember how you go home, you were in a hypnotic trance-like state.
Can you make me do or say something weird while under hypnosis? Is this the same as hypnotic show I saw on TV?No. You cannot do or say anything in hypnosis that is in conflict with your personal desires or ethical standards. Therapeutic Hypnosis is completely different than the stage hypnosis you have seen on TV. During a hypnotherapy session, you are not out of control in any way; in fact, hypnosis is a state of guided focus, concentration, and relaxation. Since stage hypnotism is aimed at putting on an entertaining show, the entertainer picks the most susceptible audience member to hypnotize into suddenly falling asleep or pretend to be chicken! In contrast, hypnotherapy is about accessing your subconscious to create a long-term behavior change that a clients wants to achieve. It helps clients reach a lifestyle goal, and positive, hypnotic suggestions are provided to allow progression and change to continue to occur.
Do I know what's going on during hypnotherapy?Yes, you are aware of everything that is happening during a hypnotherapy session. You are an active participant in the process, and can even leave the hypnotic state anytime if you so desire. Hypnosis is a state in which you can think clearly and your imagination is active. It’s a state where you could move if you wanted to but you would rather just remain relaxed. Because we all experience it everyday, we can understand just how safe it is.
What can hypnosis do for me?Hypnosis can teach and re-program behaviors, habits, and beliefs that are holding you back from living a happier, healthier, more fulfilling and successful life.
What does hypnosis feel like?People describe the experience of hypnosis as highly pleasurable and a relaxed state. Most people’s muscles grow loose and relaxed. Often the breathing grows deeper and slower as a result of increased relaxation. Feelings of warmth or tingling are common. Often people report an increased ability to visualize much like daydreaming. Some people’s perception of time is altered – the trance state may seem much longer or shorter in duration than it actually is - just like seeing a movie but not perfectly remembering every scene. Each individual's experience is unique.
How will I feel after I've been hypnotized? You will feel energized, relaxed, and have an overall positive feeling of well-being.
How many sessions do I need? To see the best results, I would recommend to focus on one session for each issue you want to address. I am trained to help you achieve results as fast as possible and in the fewest sessions as possible. My goal is to update your way of thinking and to provide you the tools and guidance, so you no longer need me. Most clients only need 1-3 sessions to resolve an issue and see dramatic results in just one to two sessions. You can always decide after the first session if you want to do more sessions.
How long does it take to see results?Several factors influence the degree and rate at which success may be achieved. Your openness, desire and commitment to want to implement the change in your life will play a major role in how fast you see results. After one session you will already feel a change as if a weight has been lifted. Most clients see and feel results within 1-2 weeks. Practice and repetition helps reinforce new thoughts into your subconscious.
How effective is online vs in-person sessions? Online therapy is just as effective as in-person treatment for the issues we address using hypnotherapy. The most important factor is you are somewhere you feel comfortable and relaxed. Most people prefer the convenience and comfort in finding a quiet place within their home than having to go into a health practice. During the hypnosis session, your eyes are closed and we bring all the focus internally, so all the session requires is for you to listen as you are guided through the session.
Any mental health issues that we feel require in-person treatment to be effective, we would refer you to consult your local therapist.
Here is some of the
research conducted by the American Psychological Association. Another study by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) revealed that internet-based cognitive behavioural therapy (iCBT) is just as effective as traditional face-to-face CBT, especially in tackling emotional and anxiety disorders. Some studies even found that not only was online counselling effective, but in some cases it was even more so.
